Meet Lyndsey!

My clients describe me as supportive, non-judgmental, relatable, and a safe space.

Hello! I’m Lyndsey. I use she/her pronouns and I am so glad you’re here.

I grew up in the Western New York area, but currently reside in Richmond, Virginia on unceded Powhatan and Youghtanund lands. Growing up, my childhood and adolescence was defined by the needs of my medically fragile elder brother, Richard, and of being a first generation American to immigrant parents. Richie is from whom I learned the foundations of empathy and advocacy. I received my bachelor’s of science in psychology and master’s of science in clinical mental health counseling from St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY in 2012 and 2015 respectively. Additionally, I have received a master’s of science in forensic psychology from Northcentral University in 2021. I am truly a lover of learning and revel the experience of being a student. When not in the office, I enjoy reading and crafting, spending time with my community and family, experiencing new foods and cultures, frequenting any and every Renaissance festival, and being active. I’ve been an active roller derby skater since 2012. Our precious rescue dog, Obi, is my constant companion and I bring him with me just about anywhere he’s allowed to go.

In our therapy sessions, I’m here to be an empathetic listener and provide you with the guidance and support to build the skills you need to journey towards greater self-understanding and self-acceptance. Together, we’ll explore the depths of who you are, your dreams and visions for the future, and how we can move you closer to achieving the life you want for yourself. Through our conversations, you’ll have the space to share both your challenges and triumphs, allowing us to delve into your experiences and relationships with care and compassion.

Our shared objective is to unburden you from the fear, anxiety, and shame that is no longer serving you on your journey of growth. We will seek to gain wisdom from past mistakes, and foster stronger, healthier connections with yourself and those around you. Let’s embark on this journey together, where discovery and healing await.

As a neurospicy, queer therapist with first-hand experience in non-monogamous and kinky relationships, I provide a safe place for you to explore yourself and your sexuality from a place of curiosity without judgment. If you are exploring and expanding your gender, sexual orientation, kink roles and dynamics, or relationship style, I will help you reflect on matters of identity and your uniqueness, and encourage you to playfully approach your desires and sexual curiosities. I am also keenly aware how living with neurodivergences can disrupt connections with our loved ones, our bodies, and the world around us, as well as the beautiful diversity our brains can bring to the table.

I love the creativity and human connection that my work allows me to experience in my daily life. The opportunities to be witness to my clients’ grief, joy, heartache, and healing are incredibly powerful moments to me, and I recognize the trust that has been placed in me is sacred. I know from experience being in therapy myself, that it is an incredibly tough and brave thing to do to ask for support for yourself when you’re already feeling uncertain or overwhelmed, and the level of vulnerability it takes to be open with someone new. I strive to create a safe space so that you feel free to do the work as needed without fear of judgement and knowing that you are not alone in it..

Before finding my place in the seemingly concentric venn diagram of neurodivergent, kinky, and non-monogamous populations, I have had extensive experiences working in some capacity with just about every population you can think of, to include adults with developmental disabilities and behavioral support needs in vocational training, day habilitation, and residential settings, adults with severe and persistent mental health diagnoses in long-term in-patient, forensic, and transitional housing settings, children and families in a therapeutic family foster care program, adults with co-occurring diagnoses of HIV/AIDS and severe mental health diagnoses, substance use and addiction disorders, adults that have or are currently experiencing housing insecurity, community mental health, life transition stages, grief and loss, and acute crisis intervention. Each of these experiences have gifted me moments that have profoundly shaped the trajectory of my clinical practice, as well as my world view.

Through my clinical practice, I continuously seek learning and skill development opportunities that challenge my own internal biases and beliefs. I seek to change and inform the way that I view and interact with the world and communities around me, and help me to approach my clients with not only best practices in mind, but also with my clients’ wants and autonomy at the forefront of our work together. I have training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, somatic processing techniques, person-centered approaches, and Dialectical Behavioral techniques.

  • I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York, as well as a registered behavioral telehealth provider in the states of Florida, Vermont, and Idaho. I have had my own practice, Thrive Counseling Services, since 2021. It was my own lived experiences as a queer AuDHD woman that led me to the forms of clinical practice I have today. They say do what you know – it’s through this approach that has equipped me with the understanding needed to support my clients in the best ways I can offer. I have extensive experience working with gender diverse clients, clients seeking support with ADHD/Autism diagnoses, and clients who practice kink dynamics or non-monogamous relationships.

  • Through my educational pursuits, I have obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2012 and a Master’s of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2015 both from St. John Fisher College (now University), as well as a Master’s of Science degree in Forensic Psychology in 2022 from Northcentral University.

  • I’m from Western New York, which I affectionally refer to as “pretty much Canada” to people unfamiliar with New York. My love for Upstate autumn and spring is felt in my core – the colors never cease to inspire me. I have a deep love of learning and reading, you can almost always find with a book on me. My favorite genre right now is fantasy, particularly Laurell K. Hamilton novels, but I find myself being drawn towards cozy fantasy more and more lately. My small family includes my spouse and our absolutely beautiful rescue dog. We have a love for adventuring, whether it’s across oceans, or finding the adventure in every day tasks. I find fulfillment in building deep and intentional connections with found family and community. I enjoy being creative through many different forms, and have played roller derby since 2012.
